On any given day, asking someone to define what they believe the phrase “Red Team” means to them or their business would produce a laundry list of definitions that would confuse even the best of us. While some answers may be remotely close to the origins of what spawned the term in the first place, the purpose and execution of a Red Team plan are often flawed before it’s even put into motion. In this talk we’ll peel back the layers of Red Teaming, better understand its purpose, it’s misconceptions and common points of failure when the design and execution are mishandled. We’ll then discuss what a legitimate Red Team program should look like, whether it be internal or external sourced initiatives and the value of proper Red Teaming when done in the correct way.
