Transformation Success – Lessons Learned From the shifts to DevOps and Planning Your Successful Organizational Readiness
Going through a ‘digital transformation’, implementing methodologies like ‘DevOps’? It’s natural for our teams to focus on the changes to the technology portfolios that accompany these transitions, as leaders we need to be mindful that these shifts are more than technology evolutions, and the real impacts to our organization’s success – our roles, responsibilities, skills and future.

Lou Senko, Q2’s CIO and SVP Hosting talks through his lessons learned through navigating a high-growth, leading edge technology company, and how principles of Enterprise Architecture and Organizational Readiness helped him transform the IT team’s partnership with both development and the business.

Red Teaming – An Identity Crisis
On any given day, asking someone to define what they believe the phrase “Red Team” means to them or their business would produce a laundry list of definitions that would confuse even the best of us. While some answers may be remotely close to the origins of what spawned the term in the first place, the purpose and execution of a Red Team plan are often flawed before it’s even put into motion. In this talk we’ll peel back the layers of Red Teaming, better understand its purpose, it’s misconceptions and common points of failure when the design and execution are mishandled. We’ll then discuss what a legitimate Red Team program should look like, whether it be internal or external sourced initiatives and the value of proper Red Teaming when done in the correct way.

“Consumerize” the IT User Experience
IT Users are not the same as they were five or ten years ago. The digital experience is part of everyone’s life from every angle. IT Users when not at work know what a good user experience is and aren’t afraid to tweet, blog, or post on any social media portal they subscribe, letting the world know the good and (more often), the bad experience they have had! So why should they, as consumers of a vital service in the work place have any different experience? Is it because we think they are a captive audience? The quality of the IT User experience is not just a feel-good idea anymore; it’s a differentiator in attracting and retaining talent across an entire organization.

What is AI Without DATA? The New Convergence of Data; the Next Strategic Business Advantage
DATA is the central asset of your company. The growth of data has accelerated beyond even the opportunistic forecast of a few years ago. The new definition of convergence is very different from even a decade ago.

The new trends of Big Data, Data Science, Cloud, AI, Mobility and IoT are changing how organizations are using data. It is now a critical business asset.

New business processes will revolve around the data and it will soon become even more intensive through massive streaming data coming from ubiquitous sensors in the Internet of Things. Variety, not volume or velocity will drive the investments. During this session you will see how the data has become a strategic business advantage and its value will only increase in the next decade.

Autonomous Cyber Defense: AI and the Immune System Approach
From insiders to sophisticated external attackers, the reality of cyber security today is that the threat is already inside. Legacy approaches to cyber security, which rely on knowledge of past attacks, are simply not sufficient to combat new, evolving attacks, and no human cyber analyst can watch so much or react quickly enough. A fundamentally new approach to cyber defense is needed to detect and respond to these threats that are already inside the network - before they turn into a full-blown crisis.
Self-learning systems represent a fundamental step-change in automated cyber defense, are relied upon by organizations around the world, and can cover up to millions of devices. Based on machine learning and probabilistic mathematics, these new approaches to security can establish a highly accurate understanding of normal behavior by learning an organization’s ‘pattern of life,’. They can therefore spot abnormal activity as it emerges and even take precise, measured actions to automatically curb the threat.
Discover why autonomous response and machine learning is the future of defense and how the ‘immune system’ approach to cyber security provides complete network visibility and the ability to prioritize threats in order to better allocate time and resources.

In this session, learn:
  • How new machine learning and mathematics are automating advanced cyber defense
  • Why full network visibility allows you to detect and autonomously respond to threats
  • How smart prioritization and visualization of threats allows for better resource allocation and lower risk
Real-world examples of unknown threats detected by ‘immune system’ technology

Microservices: Wrangling the Monster
Microservices are a great idea, until they’re not. Many businesses are starting to see the fractures in the microservices architecture as their operations teams struggle to keep up with the ever-growing body of segregated and disassociated production-level software. Sure, the unicorns will say, “just shift left and make the developer responsible for more,” however, that doesn’t fly in many of today’s businesses. Monoliths have their downsides, but they were mostly contained and had minimal layers. Today’s microservices applications may be 4- and 5-deep dependencies. In this session we’ll review strategies for wrangling the microservices monster leveraging modern operational tools and DevOps approaches.

Focusing Health Innovation on Things that Matter - CIO Luncheon
Innovations in health have been largely been focused on increasing success in fee-for-service healthcare or in appealing to consumers interested in improving health. Neither of these directions is likely to deliver the critical disruptions we need in the health system. Every other industry tries to deliver more value—higher quality, a better experience, or more features for a lower cost—while healthcare innovators chase profits in a broken market place. Altering the landscape for health innovation could accelerate innovation around value. Some specific recent examples from Dell Medical School and other entities illustrate the potential to disciplining innovations around the needs and desires of people.  This is part of the Austin CIO Luncheon and requires separate registration.

The Realities of Security
Ever get asked if your code has "zero security defects?" Or for commitments to "fix any security issue in 3 days?" Complete a services oriented questionnaire that asks for patching statu sof every machine in your enterprise? The increased customers interest in security is a good thing - especially as more businesses pursue services - is a great thing... until "reasonable and prudent risk management" is replaced by "check the box, even if you can't leap tall buildings at a single bound." Knowing what's possible and what is not helps us make better decisions and "set expectations correctly" for both buyer and seller. We can all get to better if we know there is no reward without risk.

Digital Extortion - Ransomware and Tools of Choice
Digital extortion is one of the most lucrative ways cybercriminals can profit in today’s threat landscape. Many have fallen victim to this particular scheme and been bilked of their money — from ordinary users to big enterprises.

Everyone is a potential target, which is why being informed about what digital extortion is, how it’s carried out and how to protect against it is critical. This is especially relevant in 2018, where we predict that digital extortion efforts will involve other methods besides the tried and tested ransomware attack.

All resources and materials used during the exercise will be provided to attendees to bring back to their organization to launch a program for conducting cybersecurity war game exercises internally.
  • On the stage will be participants with tech and management experience who will play various roles at a fictional company, and they will be led through a narrative series of events that result in a cybersecurity breach.
  • Attendees will be given a dossier on their role as a customer or investor of the fictional company when they arrive, and they can submit feedback to the fictional company via their mobile device. Winning submissions as determined by audience vote will be used within the exercise.
  • As a tabletop, there are no live systems, instead it's like a D&D game with hackers and techies instead of dragons and wizards, supplemented with synthesized policies and logs from the fictional systems projected for everyone to see.
  • After the event, there will be a panel of cybersecurity experts who will conduct a "hot wash" de-brief, analyzing how well the participants performed, and to what extent our exercise accomplished its objectives.

Data Protection Storage: Optimizing Data Protection for Hybrid IT
As Hybrid IT—the blending of traditional and cloud services—becomes the new reality, you are
faced with new opportunities for organizational efficiencies. In the context of data protection,
you can deploy high performance, robust local secondary storage together with public or
private cloud storage. The local storage allows you to rapidly complete backups and execute
restores to maintain user productivity. The cloud storage offers scalability and lower costs for
long term retention and archiving of your backup data.

Wherever you run your workloads, a hybrid backup infrastructure ensures that performance
and cost is aligned with the value of the backup data. You need an end-to-end solution that
integrates local and cloud storage and enables a single point of management.

Intro to CFIUS
The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”) is an interagency body which has the authority to assess the national security implications of transactions that could result in control of U.S. businesses by foreign persons. With the increased focus on the acquisitions of U.S. companies, especially by China, CFIUS has entered the public consciousness in a way it never has before.
In their presentation, Ms. Olga Torres and Mr. Albert Schultz, will discuss what CFIUS is, its background and recent history, its composition, and the processes associated with CFIUS. Also, the presentation will address CFIUS’s missions and goals.

Most importantly, the presentation will cover recent CFIUS cases. The Trump administration has blocked more acquisitions of U.S. companies than any other presidency. This presentation will provide a brief overview of those cases, as well as the implications of these decisions.  The presentation will conclude with practical hints for companies and investors that may have to face the CFIUS process.
